Q1: I connected TV according to the Instruction Manual but no sound comes out. What is wrong?
This can happen if your cable or Direct TV set-top box is connected to TV by three wire RCA plugs instead of RF out to the UHF/VHF antenna input. For most TV sets, no audio output is available if the audio is brought in via. 2-channel audio inputs. In technical terms, no audio output from TV is available if the built-in TV tuner is not used to generate the audio. If you are using 2-channel audio output of the set-top box, be sure to connect the set-top box output directly to the Binaura system's TV input.
Another way is to use SPDIF (coax) or OPICAL output (digital audio out) of the set-top box. In this case, the output should be connected to either COAX or OPTICAL input of Binaura system and the source selection must be made accordingly. If you use digital audio out from the set-top box, you may notice that for network channels no audio is available. In this connection, the audio is available only for those channels that are broadcasted in digital audio. The real benefit of using digital audio connection is that some cable channels (such as HBO) are broadcasted in 5.1-ch audio and in this case, you can enjoy the Binaura surround sound.
Q2: I get TV sound but the volume control does not always respond. What is happening?
Even if your TV sound is connected to Binaura system, your television's speakers maybe still working. Be sure to set your TV volume to the minimum or mute the TV to correct this problem.
Q3: I connected DVD according to the Instruction Manual, but I get no sound. Is there anything else that I must do?
Some DVD players, both analog and digital audio are not available simultaneously. Therefore, if your DVD player is set for analog audio output, the digital audio output (Coax or SPDIF out) may not be active. Using “MENU” feature of your DVD player, go to AUDIO setting. If you find the setting selection for ANALOG or DIGITAL audio, choose DIGITAL. While you are in the MENU, check to see if there setting choice for DIGITAL out. For DIGITAL audio setting, choose SPDIF/RAW or Digital Stream.
Q4: In watching DVD movies, I don't get as much surround effect as I expected. Is there anything that I am overlooking?
Several factors can affect the performance of Binaura Surround Sound. Please consider the following conditions:
The most basic and very important factor is that the DVD is connected to Binaura System by Coaxial digital audio. Do not use 2-channel audio output of DVD player to make the connection.
When playing a DVD movie, be sure to select 5.1-ch audio. If your DVD does not have 5.1-ch audio for the language of your choice, you will not get Binaura Surround, but you will get stereo audio like VCR. In many cases, non-English sound track is not available in 5.1-ch audio.
If your main speaker is not placed properly, you will not get the effective surround sound. To check to see if your speaker placement is the problem, go through the following experiment:
1) First make sure that there is nothing obstructing both left and right sides of the main speaker. More space you have on either sides of the speaker the better the surround effect is.
2) Play a DVD that you know it is in 5.1-ch audio. Stand approximately 3 feet away from the main speaker facing straight at the Center Speaker. In this position, you should notice very effective surround sound so long as the DVD you are using has enough surround effect.
3) Once you verify that you can hear the surround effect facing directly the Center Speaker and standing approximately 3 feet away, it may be necessary to review the placement of main speaker. To make sure your main speaker is placed correctly, please go to “Did I place the speaker correctly?” of “How do I optimize the system performance?” section of this website.
Q5: When changing STEREO MODE, the response to Remote Control seems inconsistent. Is there anything wrong with my system?
Depending on how you manipulate the Remote Control, it may appear inconsistent. But there is nothing wrong with your system. Please note when STEREO MODE button is pressed once, it displays current setting of STEREO MODE. If you press the same button twice within 15 seconds of each other, the STEREO MODE will cycle into anther mode. For example, if you verified that it is in BINAURA STEREO mode but decided to double check one more time within 15 seconds of the first verification, the STEREO MODE will end up changing to BINAURA VOCAL mode. In other words, if you press the mode button to check the current setting, do not press again at least for 15 seconds unless you intend to change the mode.
Q6: It is not easy to directly point the Remote Control to subwoofer because other furniture gets in the way. Is there anything I can do?
Yes, this is a common problem and Binaura system comes with an external Remote Sensor. Plug in the external Remote Sensor to the back panel of subwoofer cabinet. Place the sensor where you can easily point. The bottom of TV screen may be most appropriate for this location.
Q7: In the process of trying to optimize the system performance, I made too many changes and cannot get back to the original settings. How can I get the system back to the default settings?
The system settings are automatically reset to the original factory settings every time “TV” select button on the Remote Control is pressed. The system also reset to the original condition when the power switch on the back panel is turned off and back on.
Q8: After the last sever thunderstorm, Binaura system does not come on. Even though the back panel switch is turned on, the standby Red Light does not come on. Is there anything I can do to check the system?
Although it is very unusual to happen, it is possible that the fuse is brown. To check the fuse, at most caution is required. If you are not technically inclined do not attempt to check the fuse.
1) First, completely unplug the system from wall socket. The power cord should be removed from the subwoofer back panel. Turn-off the power switch on the back.
2) Now you may remove the fuse holder cap. Using a Philips screwdriver, turn it in counterclockwise.
3) After the cap is completely unscrewed, pull the cap out. The fuse will come out with cap.
4) If the fuse is brown, you will find that a fine line inside the glass tube is broken off. If it is broken, replace the fuse with T2A L250V. Do not replace it with any other type of fuse.
